LONDON—Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle will be stripped of their remaining royal duties, Buckingham Palace said, confirming the couple’s total official break with the British royal family following a year-long review.
Buckingham Palace released a statement today confirming the Duke of Sussex will lose his military titles, including the coveted role of Captain General of the Royal Marines.
Meghan and Harry will lose two patronages each plus their roles as president and vice president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust.
The couple will lose their roles as patrons of a variety of national military, sporting and cultural organizations. Prince Harry will lose several honorary military titles, including Captain General of the Royal Marines and Commodore-in-Chief, Small Ships and Diving in the Royal Navy. The Duchess of Sussex will also lose appointments including her patronage of the National Theatre.
A spokesperson for Prince Harry and Markle said in a statement: “As evidenced by their work over the past year, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex remain committed to their duty and service to the UK and around the world, and have offered their continued support to the organisations they have represented regardless of official role.”
